Palm – Priority-Based Phone Call Filtering Patent

palm pre1 Palm Priority Based Phone Call Filtering PatentA Patent filed back in 2007 has been found which shows that Palm are working, or have worked on a phone call filtering application that works based on priority. When calls are received a filter checks to see what the number is and then runs it through a threshold priority to check the current time and if that person should be calling. If the persons call is not wanted then an automated text message can message back saying something along the lines of “Call back after 5pm”.

The idea behind it is really quite simple but could be handy to filter out unwanted calls that maybe you shouldn’t be getting while at work, but yet still allow you to take important calls from authorised or business numbers.

Could this filtering feature be included in WebOS that will be installed on the Palm Pre to be launched next month? We’ll find out soon enough for sure.

Details of the patent can be found here.
