The Palm Pre was launched this past weekend and new owners have been surprised to see that when the phone was switched on that an OTA (over the air) update to webOS 1.0.2 was ready for download. The update is a last minute release which is 67 meg in size and is ready to download over Sprint’s EVDO network.
New features in this small upgrade make the OS more stable as well as including a new alarm clock. The stability issues were found in some review units which apparently reset themselves wiping the phone clean and restoring from the Palm Pre original backup which isn’t good. Luckily as the phone does OTA upgrades it’s a simple fix if you have witnessed the problems.
The Palm Pre download runs silently in the background allowing you to use the phone as normal while preparing for the upgrade. After the download it’s a fairly routing type upgrade like click here… your phone will be restarted and your done, type set-up.

Nothing like a last-minute 67MB patch. Tsk, tsk Palm.
