The Alex eBook Reader is an Android based device that has two screens and runs Marvell’s ARMADA 166E chip. The new chip allows frame rates of up to 3fps on the eInk screen up top that although not a huge amount of frames could give some basic animation to images/comics read on the eBook.
A high frame rate isn’t the main goal of Marvell though as it’s ARMADA 166E chip is designed to get rid of multi-chip controller boards and put everything on to a single chip that saves both space and battery usage. [click to continue…]

When getting a new phone with high speed internet available on it, a common want is to be able to use the phone as a modem for your laptop so you can access the internet on a larger screen while on the move. Often this ability, referred to as tethering, is blocked, but recently we are seeing more phones and carriers open up to allowing phones to be used for this, for a fee of course. We now hear that the Motorola Droid will have tethering ability on the Verizon network starting early next year.
Verizon have mentioned that their Broadband Access Connect plan will be made available for Droid early next year. This mobile plan is designed to allow you to use your phone for tethering. [click to continue…]

Designer Je Sung Park has designed a new laptop that is recyclable due to it being made of paper. The idea behind it is that the average laptop could last anywhere from 2 to 5 years and then need to be replaced which ads a lot of harmful waste to the environment.
The laptop is made from pulp and reprocessed materials which when broken down a few years (perhaps weeks if it’s paper based) would then just be taken back down to it’s basic form and re-processed. [click to continue…]

Just this morning we mentioned that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 had been officially announced. After some hunting around on youtube we then came across a promo video showing the phone in action and how the interface works. The video shows an ultra smooth version of Rachael UI working and although pre-production models are a little more choppy, it’s still time for SE to iron out any bugs considering the phone wont be launched for another few months. Video after the break. [click to continue…]

After a few months of rumours and leaks about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and it’s change of name from Rachael to X3 and finally to X10, it has now been officially unveiled. The new SE Android based phone runs a 1GHz Snapdragon processor built by Qualcomm and has a healthy 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display which isn’t quite the size of the HTC HD2, but is still quite a large screen to work with.
It runs the Rachael Android UI which we showed a little of yesterday that features a complete overhaul of the media menus and video playback. As well as the fast processor, large screen and nice UI the phone has an 8.1 megapixel camera although on the downside for now, the phone is a little choppy and the snapdragon processor seems to quickly kill the battery. Don’t be too worried about that though as the UI is a very early stage as the phone isn’t getting released for another few months yet. We expect that when it is released the battery and choppy issues should be all sorted. [click to continue…]

NEC have announced a new projector named the NEC NP610. It falls in to the entry-level category but has a fairly bright projection of 3500 lumens making it work well in conference halls and class rooms.
For connectivity it supports DVI-I, VGA, 3 audio inputs and variable audio out. Connectivity over a network is also possible although network connectivity is simply for remote diagnostics rather than transmitting presentations over IP. The VGA connector is also able to carry control signals so that the connected computer can control projector functions if needed. [click to continue…]

As of now the new netbook is only known as the 0251 and obviously, as the information has come from the FCC, there are no details of pricing or release dates. Looking at the drawings below it seems like it could have potential, but line drawings don’t exactly give a full picture. [click to continue…]

T-Mobile in the UK have uploaded details of the HTC HD2 to their site stating it has a launch date of November. The problem is that they have displayed the wrong phone and also stated that the HD2 will give access to the Android Market to download apps… seems they are getting a little confused there.
But, the release date does look about right and looking at other pages on the T-mob site they do refer to a Windows Phone based device running WM 6.5, so it seems the release date is correct and that someone just mixed up a few of the details. [click to continue…]
