We mentioned earlier this morning that Nokia were launching a free navigation service for smartphones. The service has actually gone live already with the Nokia site saying "Free Navigation on your Nokia. For Free. For Ever". We thought we'd give you a quick run-down of what's actually included in Ovi Maps and what the navigation is actually capable of. Please note that this not a review and just a summary for now of what is now included for free in the Ovi Maps software.
Ovi Maps Navigation is capable of working in over 70 countries which puts it far ahead of Google Maps Navigation that only officially works in just the USA. Included in Ovi Maps Navigation is free drive navigation, free walk navigation, free maps and map updates, free events guides, free lonely planet guides and free michelin guides to start of with.
Other features include free weather reports, free event information as well as updates for the maps for the life of you owning a compatible Nokia smartphone.
Ovi Maps with free navigation is compatible on the following phones... Nokia X6, Nokia N97 mini, E72, E55, E52, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, Nokia 5230.
Overall it's going to be a good competitor to other satnav systems. With already having a good market share potentially this could go very well for Nokia.
