Orange and T-Mobile have dropped the price of the iPad on contract. The price prior to the drop was £199 for existing users who sign up to a 24 month contact. For new owners, the monthly cost went up to £27 and the out right cost was £229.99.
Today, Orange dropped the price down to just £99 on the same contract for 24 months with T-Mobile doing the similar although the T-Mobile deal is for existing customers only.
As always, speculation has started as a few sites have mentioned that this is in preparation for the iPad 2 release date. The iPad 2 is expected to launch very early April which is potentially one reason Orange and T-Mobile could be dropping the price.
In a tweet, Orange responded saying it could be just a promotion that's running.
Other suggestions hint that this could merely be Orange and T-Mobile struggling to shift stock and trying to get some of it moving. We won't know for sure, but what we do expect is Apple to take the stage soon and announce the next generation tablet device.
The other main carriers in the UK have not responded just yet with Three still holding the price at £199 on a £25/month contract.
