AllThingsD have reported that Nokia and Yahoo are to partner together on smartphones. The new project is called Project Nike and will bring Yahoo search, email and other applications to Nokia phones that will be installed as standard.
The new partnership on smartphones will also see the Yahoo deal not only bring such features to smartphones, but also to non smartphones too. Rumours also indicated in the past that a "Yahoo Phone" could be in the works although this doesn't look like the case now.
Yahoo is a little left out in terms of the mobile game with Google [GOOG] having Android and Microsoft launching Windows Phone 7 in the next few months, so it appears this move is to give Yahoo a more prominent place in the mobile arena.
An official announcement about Project Nike will happen this coming Monday at a Nokia event. AllthingsD reached out to both Nokia and Yahoo on this, but neither gave anything particularly useful, as expected.
When the event happens and the announcement is made, we'll provide an update at GadgetVenue. Lets just hope it's something interesting and more in depth than a few Yahoo services on Nokia feature and smartphones.
