Motorola MILESTONE gets Android 2.1 OTA

by Matthew Newill on March 29, 2010

The Motorola MILESTONE Android 2.1 OTA (over the air) update is apparently being pushed out to MILESTONE users in various locations. The update takes just a few minutes to download and is followed by a reboot where the update is applied. Once done it brings a bunch of new features plus a few speed enhancements to the Motorola smartphone.

Updates include live wallpaper, 9 home screen panels, new applications which include Quick Office, a new Camera app and a Facebook app.

Also a new interface joins the MILESTONE that when you put the smartphone in to car mode a new interface is displayed making it easier (and safer) to tap the screen while in a car.

The update of Android 2.1 for MILESTONE increases performance in a number of ways although I personally haven't tested it yet so am unsure if that just means things running a little more snappier than before as in the speed screens transition and the speed that apps load.

If you are unlucky in that you haven't received notification yet of the OTA update then there is still an option to download the update from a website where you can tether your MILESTONE to a computer and upload it that way to your phone. The non OTA update can be found here.
