The device pictured here is a mobile phone that incorporates Nissan’s Intelligent Key System. This system allows the mobile phone to act as a key-less entry system for various Nissan cars.
It works by using a two-way wireless system which communicates with the vehicle. When in range it allows the car to be unlocked automatically and also allows the car to be started with out inserting a key. The Intelligent Key System is already used in almost a million cars built by Nissan since 2002.
With the new device being a phone it actually makes it very handy as a phone is something you always tend to carry around with you. I do think that the system should be capable of being used on all your doors which would completely drop the need for carrying keys anywhere.
We can expect to see this released early next year.

Rather than just one phone that can enable the car why not Bluetooth-enable the car so that any phone with the right application could unlock it? Of course it would have to be secure – maybe that’s the stumbling block.
