The Apple Magic Mouse launched just a couple of days ago, and again, iFixit have managed to get their hands on one quickly to tear it down and see exactly what’s inside the thing.
The Magic Mouse has an aluminium base that is covered above with a smooth multitouch panel. As the whole top section of the Magic Mouse is multitouch, it has just the smooth panel on top with no buttons.
By using gestures you are able to control the mouse such as swiping fingers across the mouse tapping in 2 places etc… But, lets see what iFixit found inside this mouse.
The Magic Mouse uses regular batteries which is a surprise, inside the torn down model they were just regular Energizer batteries. To get the mouse out of it’s shell the team used an iPod opening tool after getting through a bunch of glue. Once open it was found there wasn’t much aluminium with just 10 grams of it. 37 grams were plastic along with 47 grams of battery. Inside the mouse has orange capacitive touch sensors along with a main board. The top side sensors are connected to the main board by a ribbon cable. The full teardown is available here.
