JooJoo Tablet Now Shipping

by Matthew Newill on March 23, 2010

Looking around thejoojoo.com website, it appears that they are actually shipping the device as promised to US customers. The JooJoo was supposed to launch last month at the end of February but got delayed till March 25 although it appears that shipping is starting today with perhaps orders being delivered on the 24th or 25th.

The delays for the JooJoo were partly because of problems with the capacitive touchscreen that the device uses which we assume are fixed if they are shipping now. Within the months delays the JooJoo user interface was also upgraded making it look far better with rendered icons and a customisable background. The rendered icons replaced the standard line drawings that were used previously.

The JooJoo is going on sale for $499 and orders are now being taken. For international orders out of the US you'll still need to pre-order the device and no official date has been provided for a launch out of the US.

It's hard to judge at the moment how the JooJoo will sell. The Apple iPad has done very well with pre-orders reaching an estimated 120,000 within the first day. I doubt the JooJoo has received that many orders, although it's the same price as the cheapest iPad (although comes with just 4GB of storage), but it's more customisable and should you want to install your own (warranty voiding) 64GB SSD then total cost would be cheaper than a 64GB iPad equivalent and you do get a camera, a USB port and the device plays Adobe Flash 10.1 content making it quite an attractive offer.

Available for order now over here.
