Gigaom have revealed that Skype may become available officially for the iPhone as early as next week. A few months ago the Skype CEO was asked when it would be made available and his reply was to “Stay tuned”… so it is already known that it was in the works.
A tipster — a very reliable one — tells me that Skype is almost ready to launch that iPhone version, perhaps as soon as next week. CTIA Wireless, a large mobile industry trade event, kicks off in Las Vegas next Wednesday, so perhaps the announcement will be made there. I am working on getting more details, as well as screenshots of the service.
If Skype officially becomes available on the iPhone it will make the device even more attractive. Making free Skype to Skype calls anywhere in the world will be very handy to have. It is not clear yet if they will allow Skypeout or Skypein, but if an official announcement is made next week then details will be revealed on Gadgetvenue.

The new 3.0 software for iPhone’s would allow 3rd party hardware for the mac too, so the mock-up image could be somewhat realistic utilising the new software. Skype on the iPhone would be great.
