iPhone 4 UK Supplies Limited due to Screen Shortages?

by Matthew Newill on June 18, 2010

O2 announced earlier today that the iPhone 4 UK launch had been hit with a shortage of supplies. The company will now be selling iPhone 4's to existing customers only till the end of July when more supplies are expected to arrive. To qualify as an existing customer you need to have been with O2 since May 24 this year.

The delays are generally thought to be because of the huge success on June 15 when pre-orders started being accepted. That day alone, 600,000 iPhone 4's were pre-orders despite the server issues that caused problems for many people wanting the new device.

According to The Street, Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar claims that display screen shortages are contributing to the tight supplies, cutting in half Apple's planned production rate for iPhone 4.

Apple's iPhone production has hit a speed bump due to display screen shortages, says Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, whose sources include Apple supply and manufacturing partners.

The shortage is said to have dropped production down from 4 million units per month right down to 2 million units per month. Lets hope they find some new screens soon as plenty of people are already disappointed with the delays and shortages of the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4 UK pricing has been revealed over here by three networks now, O2, Orange and Vodafone. Just 2 more networks as well as Tesco need to announce what they are doing with the iPhone. Lets hope they have a decent amount of iPhone 4's to ship next week although it's looking doubtful.
