Intel Atom 2GHz Announced

Two new Intel Atom processors have been announced. The new models are named the Z550 and Z515. No details of pricing and availability are known just yet.

The Z550 is a 2GHz processor that uses just less then 3 watts of power making it perfect for netbooks. It will give higher speeds with low power consumption which is a must for battery powered devices. The Z515 is a processor that will be under clocked but be allowed to burst it’s speed when needed. This technology is known as Burst Performance Technology (BPT) and is new from Intel. This processor runs at just 1.2GHz but does burst when needed.

Overall, a nice couple of processors and especially seeing a 2GHz coming to a netbook is a good thing. As soon as we find out more details
