iLane – Voice Command your Smartphone

by Matthew on March 23, 2009

ilane 300x178 iLane Voice Command your SmartphoneiLane is a device which connects to your smartphone and allows you to fully control the said phone with your voice.

The iLane lets you open, listen to and respond to emails on your phone by just speaking in your car. The gadget is designed for those who are constantly on the go.

iLane verbally notifies you when new emails arrive on your smartphone using pleasant, conversational words like, “Good Morning John, you have 18 new emails.”

When emails are received the device tells you at which point you can go through them, have them read out aloud and then simply say “Reply” to start composing a new message. As well as being able to read and compose emails the iLane allows you to go through your phone book, manage phone calls and sort through SMS messages as well as look and edit your calendar.

iLane Features

* Hear verbal notification of incoming emails as they’re received
* Listen as your emails are read aloud to you
* Compose new emails by speaking
* Manage your inbox with simple voice commands like “Delete”, “Call Back” and “Reply”
* Access and control other smartphone applications like phone and calendar
* Popular News, Sports and Weather Services Out Loud and On-Demand!

It seems like quite a decent device although I am unsure yet if it would be too much of a distraction. I guess it depends on how good it recognises your voice.

I just wasted 20 minutes goign through my spam emails, reading them out to myself in a polite, robotic voice. Nigerian princes never sounded so good.
