Google Nexus One gets Android 2.2 FroYo OTA

Just a couple of days ago we mentioned that Google [GOOG] had released the official and final source code for Android 2.2. That same day the company started pushing out the build to Nexus One users OTA.

The latest Android 2.2 build to hit the Nexus One is build FRF83 which is believed to be the final version ready for launch.

There are a couple of ways to get the latest Android 2.2 update. The first way requires that you manually install it, but to do that you need to be running build FRF50. If that's you then you can grab the update from here.

The better option is to go to Settings > About phone > System updates and see if it's sitting waiting for you to download or install.

In summary, you need to be running a Nexus One stock, ie not rooted or modified in any way. It appears that those getting updates are on the T-Mobile network. Those on AT&T [T] do not appear to be getting the update yet.

Let us know if you have the update and if it's any good, what you like about it and if you see any performance increases.

I manually installed from 50 to 72 to 83 to 85B. Along the way I didn’t notice any new features just more stable and polished. But with this final release, 85B, I have noticed that the battery life is slightly better and the phone charges faster when the charger is plugged in while the phone is powered on. Overall, 2.2 makes the phone work faster, especially the browser. The only new features are the tethering and ability to create a hotspot. Still, a very nice upgrade for Android.
