What this key does is allow parents to set restrictions to the Ford that they are driving which basically slows them down and keeps the music from going above a certain level. Also a seatbelt reminder is available to warn the driver to put it on.

The MyKey has potential to keep new drivers from being dangerous and messing around while on the road. The key will debut as standard on the 2010 Ford Focus and then move quickly on to other various models such as the Lincoln and Mercury (which we don’t see in the UK).

MyKey is appealing to parents of teen drivers, including 75 percent who like the speed-limiting feature, 72 percent who like the more insistent safety-belt reminder, and 63 percent who like the audio limit feature, according to a recent Harris Interactive Survey conducted for Ford.

If you are a parent, would you use a system like this?
