Digital WiFi Detector
When hunting around for an available WiFi hotspot it can be very frustrating having to boot up the laptop, hunt around and find there isnt an available on there. Using this Digital WiFi detector you can leave the laptop packed away in its bag and just walk around with this device which will scan for wireless signals. When it finds the signal it lists the SSID, WEP and WPA to let you know if the connection is encrypted and you need to move along. Once you are happy you have found a signal you can whip out the laptop and connect right away. The idea is excellent, although not new. One device I do find to be a little cooler is the WiFi Finder from Lynksys although if your laptop is wireless enabled then the Digital WiFi detector is the better option of the two.

The device is powered by 2 AAA batteries. It has a range of 300ft, is compatible with IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g networks, can order the list by signal strength, has a large LCD screen with backlight and measures 6.5cm x 7cm x 2.5cm.

If you are on the go a lot and need WiFi access where ever you go then this could save a lot of time and hassle for you. The item is available from Firebox and costs $69.95.
