dell mini 10 Dell Mini 10The Dell Mini 9 was a fantastic netbook that we had the opportunity of reviewing. I still use it to this day and am impressed with all that it does. A few weeks ago we started hearing rumours of the Dell Mini 10 that was a seriously nice sounding netbook. Dell have now made the Dell Mini 10 official.

dell mini 10 colours Dell Mini 10The Dell Mini 10 is a nice upgrade to it’s smaller brother, the Mini 9. You can choose between a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 or a 1.60GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor. The netbook runs Windows XP Home edition with Service pack 3 installed. 1GB of DDR2 memory can be found inside that runs at 533MHz. Graphics are provided by an onboard Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500. The screen is a 10.1 inch LED display with a resolution of 1024×576 (WSVGA). Rather then the SSD that the Mini 9 utilised, the Mini 10 opted for a 120GB or a 160GB 2.5″ SATA drive. It is not clear just yet if an SSD model will be made available.

With the device being a netbook and the need to keep things small, there is no optical drive. This is not a problem though as you can use one of the USB ports to transfer data over, or use the wired or wireless LAN for transferring data. The netbook is powered by a 3 cell Li-Ion battery although it’s not clear yet how many hours of battery life can be achieved. A 1.3 MegaPixel camera is built in just above the screen making it handy for conference calls and capturing images. Wireless connectivity see’s the Mini 10 connecting at a/g/n speeds and Bluetooth is also available to pair with a mobile phone.

A 3 in 1 card reader can be found in the side of the laptop that accepts SD/SDHC/MMC and MS cards. A new addition to the Dell Mini 10 is the HDMI connector allowing you to use it for HD video.

A step up from the Dell Mini 9 is obviously the extra inch of screen space. As well as using a larger screen the Dell Mini 10 also uses the full width of the netbook for a full QWERTY keyboard that’s 92% of a standard laptop in size. The touchpad also has been upgraded to multitouch which is a nice bonus.

The Dell Mini 10 comes in various configurations that will see an even better netbook come to the market. Optional features that will be made available include…

* HD capabilities – Enjoy your favorite movies on the optional 720p Hi-def 10.1¨ seamless display.
* More Storage – Do even more with optional 2GB memory and optional 250GB2 hard drive.
* Navigation – Know your way like the back of your hand using the optional GPS with optional internal WWAN support.
* Design Studio – Personalize your Mini 10 with cool designs from the artist, Tristen Eaton, in Dell’s Design Studio.
* Long battery life – No need to sacrifice weight for battery life. The Inspiron Mini 10 provides extended battery life while keeping the weight of the system under 3 pounds. 3-cell: approx. 3 hours. 6-cell: approx. 6.5 hours.
* The New TV – Watch your favourite TV shows with the internal digital TV tuner.

This is one netbook I am looking out for (well, one of a few ;) ). Hopefully the extra features like the HD 10.1″ screen and GPS do not boost up the price by too much.
