Dell are launching a couple of Hybrid laptops named the E4200 and E4300. What hybrid here means is that they have a hybrid Intel-ARM twin-processor inside which is capable of running 2 operating systems.
With the Dell Latitude E4200 and E4300 you can run both Linux and Windows on your laptop. The thinking behind this is that a lot of people use simple stuff like email and surf the web on their laptop. When you just need to do the simple stuff you can use the “instant-on” mode and boot right in to Linux without waiting. Linux is a lot less hungry when it comes to processor and battery usage, so when using a laptop for browsing then select Linux and see your battery last a lot longer. When you do need to do something a little more intensive with the laptop then you can select the Windows XP/Vista option and still use a laptop the Windows way.
I do like the idea of an instant-on linux booting laptop (or netbook would be even better). But to have Windows also available would be very handy too as I tend to be a Windows user mainly but also do a lot of browsing and email only while out and about. The extra battery life would be very handy.
