Flying Gadgets

top_gun_microfighterThis little plane is remote controlled and built like a fighter plane out of Top Gun. Just seeing the name Top Gun is enough to bring back the cheesy lines from the movie. Anyway, this RC micro fighter can do loops and other aerobatics. It is powered by 2 engines (props) which provide it enough thrust to easily fly around. Landings and take off's can be performed also. The remote control section is a dual channel allowing for up/down and left/right as well as a throttle control.

A lithium-polymer battery can keep the micro fighter in the air for 10 minutes on a 30 minute charge which isn't too bad.

Hoverboards
Back in the 80's the cool Back to the Future films were launched. In BTTF 2 we saw Marty floating around on a hoverboard while being chased by Griff and the gang. This video looks to be an old attempt to re-enact that scene. Check it out below :)

VertiPod flying Platform

by Matthew Newill on November 28, 2007

VertiPod
A one person flying platform has been developed. It is called the VertiPod and falls in to the category of an ultra light aircraft. The VertiPod is powered by propeller and works a bit like a segway in that you lean and it goes in that direction. The propeller is found underneath the platform which takes the platform up to 15 feet in the air. Power is generated by a 440 cc engine which is activated with a pull start mechanism. No details of how much flying time there is have been released. However, it can propel you at 40 MPH which is a lot quicker then rush hour traffic.

It costs $10000 with more details available over at Wired.

Cri-Cri Twin Engine Airplane
The Cri-Cri is the worlds smallest twin engine airplane. It weighs just 170 kilos and can fly at a hefty 150mph which isn't bad at all. The thrust is generated from 2 AMT Olympus Turbines. If one of the turbines is used it can still get up to 100mph. I cant say it looks like the safest plane on the planet, but that doesn't matter to the French pilot Nicolas Charmont pictured.
