ASUS ESC 1000 1.1 Teraflop Supercomputer

asus esc 1000 supercomputer 300x220 ASUS ESC 1000 1.1 Teraflop SupercomputerAsustek have revealed details on their first supercomputer this week named the ASUS ESC 1000. The ESC 1000 is capable of speeds up to 1.1 teraflops by using NVIDIA graphics processors.

One teraflop is one trillion flops (floating point operations per second), a measure of computing speed. Computers able to perform at such high speeds can be used in a variety of ways, including scientific research, image manipulation, engineering modeling or for medical purposes.

The ESC 1000 is powered by a 3.33GHz Intel LGA1366 Xeon W3580 processor that is designed for use in servers. What really gives this machine a good kick is the amount of processing cores it has. The machine has 960 graphics processing cores provided by NVIDIA with three Tesla C1060 Computing Processors along with a Quadro FX5800 each also provided by NVIDIA. [click to continue…]

The launch, according to Nikkei, will only be for Japan and the price for the new version will be the same as the price for the previous version.

The new larger screen is rumoured to be the same resolution of the smaller screen and simply just gives the option of 2 screen sizes when purchasing the DSi. [click to continue…]

About a week ago a speech was given by Bill Keller off record, but this speech was put online. About 8.5 minutes in to the video presentation the Apple Slate is mentioned as one of the platforms that the times are working on bringing content to.

“I’m hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate…”

imac win7 bootcamp support 300x259 Boot Camp will Support Windows 7 by ChristmasIf you are wanting to run Windows 7 on your Mac by using Boot Camp then you are almost in luck as Apple have officially said that Windows 7 will run by the end of this year.

Apple will support Microsoft Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate) with Boot Camp in Mac OS X Snow Leopard before the end of the year. This support will require a software update to Boot Camp.

Apple iMac 27 300x225 Apple iMac 27 TeardownThe iFixit guys have yet again performed a teardown on another newly launched Apple product. This time they have taken apart the new 27″ Apple iMac to see exactly what is squashed behind that edge to edge glass screen.

The iMac was announced on Tuesday and comes in two models measuring 21.5″ and 27″. This new 27″ model was described by iFixit as dwarfing the older 20″ model. The new model has an LED backlit display that is capable of a resolutionof 2560×1440 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio and can display full HD. [click to continue…]

Apple Magic Mouse open 300x225 Magic Mouse TeardownThe Apple Magic Mouse launched just a couple of days ago, and again, iFixit have managed to get their hands on one quickly to tear it down and see exactly what’s inside the thing.

The Magic Mouse has an aluminium base that is covered above with a smooth multitouch panel. As the whole top section of the Magic Mouse is multitouch, it has just the smooth panel on top with no buttons.

By using gestures you are able to control the mouse such as swiping fingers across the mouse tapping in 2 places etc… But, lets see what iFixit found inside this mouse. [click to continue…]

Apple Magic Mouse Launched

apple magic mouse 4 300x100 Apple Magic Mouse LaunchedAlong with a big update to a number of Apple products yesterday, Apple [AAPL] have also launched the new Magic Mouse. The mouse is the worlds first multi touch mouse allowing you to use anywhere on it’s surface to click on.

To use the mouse you need to brush a finger along the surface of it to scroll in any direction along with the ability to pan a full 360 degrees. Various other gestures can be used with the mouse including the use of two fingers, swipe left or right that allows you to skim through pages.

The multi-touch abilities stem from what started on the iPhone where a new way to interact with a screen was first used. Following the iPhone the iPod Touch also got this and then the technology moved in to touchpads on devices sich as the MacBook pro. [click to continue…]



Apple iMac Updated

The first has a screen measuring 21.5 inches while the larger has a screen measuring 27 inches. To finish off the design the screens are covered in edge to edge glass to give the new iMac a nice look.

Each of the new model screens are backlit by LED giving a nice bright and vibrant screen to look at while working. On to what powers the new iMac’s, each of them have a few options each. The 21.5 inch and 27 inch iMac’s can have either a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB of L2 cache, or a 3.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 6MB of L2 cache. The 27 inch model also has the option of a 2.66GHz quad core Intel Core i5 processor with 8MB of L3 cache along with Turbo Boost Dynamic performance up to 3.2GHz, or you can opt for a 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB of L3 cache with turbo boost performance up to 3.46GHz along with hyper-threading up to eight virtual cores. Apple Mac Mini 300x151 Apple Mac Mini UpdatedApple [AAPL] have also updated their Apple Mac Mini today. The new Mac Mini measures 2 inches high, 6.5 inches wide, 6.5 inches deep and weighs just 2.9 pounds.

The Mac Mini has a number of optional processors when buying it which include a 2.26GHz, 2.53GHz, 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor along with 3MB of on-chip L2 cache and a 1066MHz FSB. 2GB of RAM is standard on the MacMini although this can be upgraded to 4GB if needed. [click to continue…]

The new version is a step up from their older version, named the VOT131. The new VOT132 will feature a dual core Intel Atom processor and rather than running Windows XP Home, this version will run Windows 7 Home Premium.

Barnes and Noble eBook Reader 300x230 Nook eBook Reader   Barnes & Noble Color eBook Reader LaunchingAccording to WSJ, they spotted an ad showing the Barnes & Noble color eBook reader saying it will be called Nook and will be going on sale Tuesday (today) priced at $259.

The price tag matches that of the Amazon Kindle but rather than being stuck with just greyscale you’ll get color on the Nook.

The touchscreen measures 7 inches and is in a WVGA format that is capable of displaying 800 x 480 pixels.

Connectivity wise it has Wi-Fi built in and for guidance and location based services a GPS receiver is also included (although the press release indicates it could be optional).

Samsung have three cards available. All three cards come in capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. Each are designed to be shock resistant, water resistant as well as protection from magnetic interference.
