Buffalo announced their latest USB 3.0 external SSD drive. The SSD drive is the SHD-PEHU3 that is capable of transfer speeds of up to 4.8GBps.
With the drive being a solid state drive (SSD) it has no moving parts inside making it a little more secure than the traditional hard drive that has a spinning disk inside.
Although the drive is USB 3.0, it is also compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.0 although of course, transfer speeds will be lower the older version of USB you connect it to.
The drive it's self looks good with the black glossy finish. Physical size it measures 97mm x 57mm x 12mm. It weighs just 66g making it relatively light.
The device comes in several storage capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. Software is built in that allows you to backup the data easily and there's also software that encrypts data too although this isn't hardware encryption for those who want super secure.
Buffalo are launching the drives in Japan towards the end of next month where they are priced at $282, $510 and $1049 for the 64, 128 and 256GB versions.
