This USB Bluetooth adapter can be configured to have a range of 30km which is a long way. The default antenna shipped with the device allows for bluetooth connections up to 1Km. This allows devices such as mobile phones and headsets communicate with each other at a far longer distance. If you go for the 18 dBi antenna then you can go to 10Km and with a custom fit antenna that stretches the full 30Km which is a heck of a long way.
