AT&T have created a new application called Mark the Spot. The application is free and allows AT&T iPhone customers to send details of how signal strength is in any area they are using their phone. The system allows you to report on dropped calls, coverage gaps, bad data areas as well as other general network errors that cause frustration.
By gathering information from iPhone users they should then react and fix black spots on their network although I am sure it will be based on priority of how many users are in a particular area and how many are effected by the service issues.
AT&T have commented that they are committed to provided their customers with the best network experience possible and have used the application to contribute to tracking down where things need to tighten up.
Although all problems wont be solved over night by people using an application like this, it is good to know that you can highlight specific areas easily that will get the attention of AT&T. It will be interesting to see how long till black spots and bad areas are made right.
The application is available over at iTunes. Via: iPhone Blog
