Rumours are starting up again about the next gen iPhone (ie, 4th Gen iPhone) that is rumoured to be announced later this year. It is expected that the device will be the first to utilise the Samsung Super AMOLED display that was recently spotted in the Samsung Halo projector phone. Concerns over power consumption have also been rumoured to be heard as the iPhone 4G will have plenty of items within that will drain the battery quite quickly.
OLED displays work differently to LED displays and utilise the most power when content is moving a lot around the screen. When content is being scrolled up and down the screen with lots of transitions, including games, the power consumption will increase although that might be out weighed in that the device will use less power when more static.
As with all rumours, I am sure someone just makes them all up to get a bit of notice... and with that many rumours being created prior to Apple product launches at least some of them will have to be true.
What are your thoughts? Should Apple [AAPL] use a Super AMOLED screen in their next iPhone device?

Super AMOLED? Don’t you analysts predict everything and then in the end nothing you predicted comes true. Enough rumours. I won’t be even suprised if a new Iphone even comes out this year
The current screen is great IMHO. If they are testing this new display, probably means they got a deal/partnership of some kind if the battery issue is indeed true.
I’m all for a trade off between screen and batterylife.. I’d like more battery actually — batteries are more useful in emergencies
At this point all speculation is going to do is lead to disappointment when the product does finally come out.
I think the new iPhone will be announced when Apple releases the ipad (the underwhelming apple product).
If they didn’t put an AMOLED screen on the iPad, it’s highly doubtful that one will show up on the iPhone- unless they are testing it on the iPhone before moving to the iPad.
My prediction of the new V4 iphone is it will probably have the A4 chip, 64GB of memory, 512MB of RAM, and possibly a stronger GPS, more BT options, and larger battery. It will NOT be 4G network compatible, it will NOT be a Verizon phone, and it will be the same form-factor that we have with the 3G/3Gs (although a 3.7′ screen would be very nice)
Great – a wonderfully realistic screen depicting dropped calls and ATT’s network doing a grotesque crash and burn. I’ll wait, thanks.
Not Possible: Samsung owns “Super Amoled,” Apple’s much publicized multi-year $50,000,000.00 deposit only, display deal is with LG, who have a terrific reputation in (AM)OLED displays and in fact, have the world’s largest oled display tv at 15 inchs, on sale to well healed “joe consumer,” at a competitive price; to what Sony asked for the only ever prior OLED Display TV.
