For those who own an Apple iPad, the only way to get a camera is to use an app whereby you can Bluetooth connect an iPhone to the iPad and grab images that way... kind of a pain really.
Of course the Apple iPad 1st gen will not be getting a camera as it has already been built. However, a job advertisement at Apple [AAPL] indicates that an iPad Camera is on it's way though which we believe is in preparation for a second generation iPad that could launch next year.
The job offer says...
Job title: Performance QA Engineer, iPad Media
Description: The Media Systems team is looking for a software quality engineer with a strong technical background to test still, video and audio capture and playback frameworks. Build on your QA experience and knowledge of digital camera technology (still and video) to develop and maintain testing frameworks for both capture and playback pipelines¦Experience with tuning of and image pipeline, including, but not limited to AWB, Color Correction, AutoExposure, FrameRate adjustments is a plus.
If you remember the iPhone OS 4.0 release date for the iPad being sometime in the fall and more particular the OS 4.0 details that include more features for the camera on the iPhone such as rumoured (but found in the SDK) video chat, digital zooming and face detection etc... it would seem odd that a flagship device isn't capable of using those features.
So we suspect a camera is heading to the 2nd gen iPad next year sometime. I guess it could happen this year, but I'm sure it would upset a number of people if this was the case.
