The iFixit guys have yet again performed a teardown on another newly launched Apple product. This time they have taken apart the new 27″ Apple iMac to see exactly what is squashed behind that edge to edge glass screen.
The iMac was announced on Tuesday and comes in two models measuring 21.5″ and 27″. This new 27″ model was described by iFixit as dwarfing the older 20″ model. The new model has an LED backlit display that is capable of a resolutionof 2560×1440 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio and can display full HD.
The Apple iMac 27″ model can take up to 16GB of RAM that is located on the bottom edge of the screen behind an access door. This is easily accessed with 3 screws.
After removing the large sheet of glass covering the front of the device and a number of screw removals later the LCD panel also came out. The LCD panel is a hefty part of the unit weighing 11 lbs on it’s own.
