Android Ported to run on Intel Atom Netbooks

Intel have managed to port the Google Android OS on to Intel Atom based chipsets making it x86 compatible. Normally we see Android running on ARM based chipsets.

What this change will do is allow the Google [GOOG] operating system to run on x86 based products such as netbooks, smartphones and other devices that run Intel Atom processors.

This move should shake up the smartphone market which also heavily relies on ARM based CPU's. By having Intel as an option we could be seeing some interesting chipsets in mobile phones perhaps reaching faster speeds also.

News on this is a little vague at the moment, but if we hear more we'll post updates. No details of when we will see x86 based Android devices has been made available yet, but if they are as far as we think they are then maybe we'll see them sometime late this year or more likely early next year.
