64GB Zune HD Announced

by Matthew Newill on March 31, 2010

Just a couple of days ago we spotted that the Zune HD website listed a 64GB Zune HD although the link to the product page was dead. We have now received information on the actual device confirming it's existence.

Microsoft [MSFT] announced the device in a press release and have said the 64GB Zune HD will start shipping April 12 at a price of $349.99.

64GB of capacity on the Zune will allow for 16,000 songs or 20 hours of HD video to be stored in it's memory. Customisations are offered for the Zune seeing it arrive in black, blue, red, green, purple and magenta.

The introduction of the new 64GB model also sees the older 16GB and 32GB models drop in price with the 16GB model now costing $199.99 and the 32GB model costing $269.99.

The Zune HD has an OLED multi-touch screen built-in. HD radio is also included as well as a HD video output for playing HD content on your HDTV. An Internet browser is built in also.

Microsoft also announced a new firmware update that is also in the works that brings more features to the Zune HD. This includes Smart DJ auto-playlists and the ability to steam music from the Zune Marketplace through your TV (if the TV is connected through the A/V dock). Codec support has also been expanded to include more playable formats on the device.

The new firmware 4.5 will be announced officially in the next few days along with dates for launch etc...

The Zune HD 64GB can be purchased through here.
